What do consider when choosing where to stay?

From the location of your accommodation to the amenities and budget, it is important to think about each factor carefully in order to make a decision that aligns with your priorities and desires.

Location is an essential aspect to consider
Tulum is essentially divided into two zones - the beach-zone and the city center (pueblo). Both zones offer their own unique advantages and it is crucial to determine which is best suited for your needs. The beach-zone boasts an array of luxury boutique hotels and resorts, as well as exquisite beach clubs, but be aware that the beach road can be heavily trafficked. On the other hand, the city center presents a wealth of dining, shopping, and entertainment options, and a more relaxed atmosphere - especially at night. Both zones are roughly 15 minutes by car apart, however, the exact duration may vary depending on traffic.

Amenities are another aspect to consider when choosing your accommodation. Despite being nestled in the midst of a jungle and natural beachfront, Tulum provides every amenity that one could desire. However, it is worth noting that most hotels in the beach-zone rely on diesel generators for electricity and fresh water is delivered by truck on a daily basis. To be as eco-friendly as possible, it is recommended to be mindful of your water and electricity usage.

Budget is an important consideration, and one must keep in mind that the most prestigious luxury and boutique hotels are located in the beach-zone of Tulum. Additionally, while beautiful hotels are also found in the pueblo, there are more budget-friendly options located in the city center. When choosing your accommodation, it is imperative to balance your budget with your desired location and amenities to ensure a fulfilling and memorable stay in Tulum, Mexico.

When to travel to Tulum?

When contemplating a trip to Tulum, timing is an important aspect to consider. The high season in Tulum falls between the months of November and January, where the weather is perfect and the crowds are at their peak. This is the prime time to visit Tulum, if you are looking to soak up the sun on its pristine beaches and enjoy the bustling atmosphere of the city.

However, if you prefer a less crowded and more tranquil environment, you may want to consider visiting before or after the high season. This not only means fewer crowds but also lower rates for accommodations, including hotels and apartments. It's a great time to take advantage of more personalized experiences and indulge in Tulum's laidback lifestyle.

While Tulum's weather is generally warm and sunny, the summer months of July to September can get a bit hot and humid, with a higher chance of rain. It's best to be prepared for this and plan accordingly if you choose to visit during these months.

From our experience, one of the best times to visit Tulum is from February to April. This time frame offers ideal weather conditions, with warm and sunny days, and a comfortable and refreshing sea breeze. Additionally, this is a time when there is still a good turnout of visitors, allowing for a vibrant and lively atmosphere while still maintaining a sense of serenity.
